| CA'N MATEU'S HISTORY
Before the conquest of Mallorca by King Jaime I, the ancient hostal was built over Arabic foundations and placed in the area of Castellitx. King Jaume I left the whole property, including the building as inheritance to the religious order of Sant Joan de Malta. During several years, Ca´N Mateu was the accomodation for farmers on their way to Palma to sell their products on the market. In 1862, Mateu Ballester i Sastre acquired the place and now it has now been regented for five generations as a successful family business.
In 1971, Ca´N Mateu was converted into a restaurant and since then, the traditional dishes are home made, mostly from their own cultivation and agriculture.
